Paul Edward O\"™Driscoll, 85, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, January 6, 2011. He was the husband of Betty R. O\"™Driscoll for 19 years.
Mr. O'Driscoll was born Tuesday, July 21, 1925, in Berkley, CA, a son of the late John Joseph O'Driscoll and Marie Therese Vaudoit O'Driscoll. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Based in Italy, he was a tail gunner on a B17 and flew over 50 sorties during the war. The buddies he made during the war were very important to him and they all made a point to keep in touch with each other over the years.
He was retired from Woolworth Company where he was a manager for many years. He was a member of several Catholic parishes where he sang in their choirs. He was a great artist and storyteller, writing three books about his memories. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was very generous in his giving, enjoyed playing the drums and was very family-oriented.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Paul O'Driscoll and wife, Claire, San Ramon, CA; Patrick O'Driscoll, Denver, CO; Ellen O'Driscoll Egan, Reno, NV; Bill O'Driscoll and wife, Holly, Reno, NV; Mark O'Driscoll and wife, Richelle, Reno, NV; Mary O'Driscoll Perry Plumart, Silver Spring, MD; and John O'Driscoll and wife, Cindy, Enterprise, AL, Betty Bradley and husband, Joe, Alexandria, VA; Pamela K. Wayland and husband, Thomas Statum, Lynchburg, VA; Jeanne Conley and husband, Steve, McLean, VA; Bill Parman and wife, Karin, Amherst, VA; Lisa Parman, Chantilly, VA; 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Marie O'Driscoll, Lafayette, CA, and Cecelia Neff, Danville, CA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Hutchins O'Driscoll, and a brother, John O'Driscoll.
A celebration of Paul's life will be conducted at a later time in Reno, NV.
