Paul Glenwood Mason, 91, of Lynchburg, Va., met his Savior face to face on Saturday, July 25, 2015. He was the loving husband of Eunice Daniel Mason for 67 years.
Paul was born August 22, 1923, in Lynchburg, Va., a son of the late John B. Mason and the late Estelle Daniel Mason. He graduated from E.C. Glass High School and also attended Lynchburg College. He proudly served our country during World War II with Military Police Unit 698 in China, Burma, and the India Theatre. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal for his courageous service. He founded and organized the Home Builders Association of Central Virginia in 1960, and became their first president. In 1962, he was named to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Home Builders of the U.S. Paul was a building contractor for many years, building numerous houses and churches in central Virginia before entering the ministry. He also served with The Gideons International for many years. He pastored in Maryland for two years before taking the pastorate at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Concord, Va., for 32 years. After retiring from the ministry, Mt. Vernon and Jubilee Baptist Church united together. He faithfully continued to attend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Iris Mattox, of Gadsden, Ala.
Left behind to cherish Paul’s memory are his wife, Eunice; children, Anne Mason Laird and husband, Del of Lynchburg, Johnny Mason of Concord, and daughter, Hannah, David Mason and wife, Linda, of Rustburg, and Carol Mason Clemenson and husband, Greg, of Forest; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Polly Gamble of Lynchburg, Barbara Clarkson of Elon, James Mason of Roanoke, and Don Mason of Brentwood, Tenn.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Monday, July 27, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A Celebration of Life will be conducted 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Jubilee Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Childress, Rev. Earl Clarkson, and Rev. Graham Jarrel officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
