Paul Pollard Putney Sr.
Paul Pollard Putney Sr., 80, of Big Island, died on Sunday, March 6, 2011. He was the loving husband of Glenna Fifer Putney for 54 years.
Paul was born May 14, 1930 in Bedford County, a son of the late Mabyl Turner Putney and the late William K. Putney and his late wife Elizabeth Burch Putney. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was twice retired, first from Owens-Illinois and second from Georgia-Pacific after 36 years. Paul was a member of the Big Island Hunting and Fishing Club, the Liberty Lodge No. 95 of A.F. & A.M. and a member of American Legion Post #274. He was true to his God and his church, Big Island Baptist Church, and he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Pam Putney of Richmond, Suzanne Putney Daniels and her husband Maj. Lance Daniels of Dunn, NC, and Paul Pollard Putney II and his wife Michele L. Putney of Evington. His four grandchildren: Lane Pollard Daniels, Robert Luke Daniels, Benjamin Putney Daniels and Natalie Grace Putney. Three brothers; W.K. Putney Jr. of Martinsville, Lacey E. Putney of Goode, and Macon C. Putney of Bedford, and others Amber Pokropski and Martha Dawson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Irvin T. Putney.
The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. A Funeral service will be held at 7:30 PM following the visitation, with Rev. Bryon LePere officiating. Military Honors will be performed by American Legion Post #16. Interment will be held Wednesday at Big Island Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00.
