Paul Berman Shields, 88, of Lynchburg died Sunday, May 4, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita Epps Shields, and first wife Ruth Curd Shields.
Paul was born November 21, 1925 in Altavista, a son of the late Henry and Ruthie Shields. Paul was in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He received multiple honors which included; the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was a retired Pipe Fitter for Johnson Controls, and was a member of Inglewood Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and parents he is predeceased by his son, Paul B. Shields, Jr., two brothers: Wesley and Harold Shields, and two sisters Bernice Reid and Estelle Mitchell. He is survived by his sons: J. Scott Shields (Karen), and Darrell Shields (Wylene), daughters: Darlene S. Simile (Nick), Lisa S. Turner, Anne S. Gibson (Eddie), and Carolyn S.Jennings (Keith), brothers: Howard Shields, Jack Shields, Calvin Shields, ten Grandchildren, seven Great-Grandchildren, and four Great-Great-Grandchildren and very beloved friend Gaybrella Dellis, whom the family dearly loves.

The family will receive friend’s Tuesday May 6, 2014 from 6-8 P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held Wednesday May 7, 2014 at 11:00 A.M at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial park with full Military Honors by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Darlene and Nick Simile.
