Peggy Roach Peters

Peggy Jane Roach Peters, 89, of Brandon Oaks, Roanoke, VA and formerly of Bedford, VA passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019.  She was born in Hopewell, VA on September 19, 1929 the daughter of Robert Edward Roach and Mary Ethel Jamerson Roach.  In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Richard “Dick” Peters.

Peggy attended the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music specializing in piano.  In 1953, she met her future husband Dick Peters on a blind date arranged by mutual friends and they wed shortly thereafter.  Peggy and Dick were married for 65 years and raised their two children Jenny and Will in Cincinnati, OH.  In addition to her role as homemaker, Peggy enjoyed teaching piano to the neighborhood children; she was also an excellent seamstress and made many of the family’s clothes.  In their retirement, Peggy and Dick moved to Bedford VA and built their dream home with a view of the Peaks of Otter.  Peggy truly enjoyed retirement and together with Dick they travelled extensively.  Trips to China, India, Russia, Thailand and South America were among her favorite and she enjoyed decorating her house with treasures found around the world.  Peggy volunteered as a docent at the Thomas Jefferson Poplar Forest museum and enjoyed socializing with relatives in the Lynchburg area.  Peggy was a member of the Bedford Garden Club and the Peaks Presbyterian Church.  In 2010 Peggy and Dick moved to Brandon Oaks in Roanoke and enjoyed meeting and making a new group of friends.  In her later years Peggy developed a passion for rock collecting and enjoyed exploring the world via the internet and her iPad.

Peggy is survived by her two children, William Bryant Peters and Jenny Peters and her husband John Walker; also surviving are extended family and friends.
