Penelope (Penny) Cline, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023. She is survived by her husband, William (Billy) Carter Cline. They were married almost 54 years.
Born in Chapel Hill, N.C., she was the daughter of Homer Charles Holloway and Shirley Nichols Holloway. She was predeceased by two brothers, H. Charles Holloway, Jr., and Donald Gene Holloway. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Nyal Lee Cline, Jr. and his wife, Maureen McBride; a sister-in-law, Ria Binford Cline; a niece, Ria Fyffe Friel and her husband Matt; and a nephew, Robert Alec Fyffe. She is also survived by a nephew, Nyal Lee Cline III and wife, Jaime, of Durham, N.C.; a nephew, Michael Patrick Cline and wife Mallory, of Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by two special nephews, Ty Delos Cline, of Virginia Beach, VA. and Frank Holloway of Vermont. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews in North Carolina
Penny worked as a medical secretary until she retired. She was a member of the Fort Hill Woman’s Club and the Lynchburg Junior League. She was also the first volunteer coordinator of the Lynchburg area Hospice program when it began.
Penny and Billy loved camping and attending old-time music festivals and attended the Old-Time Fiddler’s Convention in Mount Airy, N.C. for over thirty years. In addition, they also enjoyed spending time at their New River cottage in Weaver Hollow, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church at 3109 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg VA, on Saturday, August 19th, at 11:00 am.
