Perry Donahue Brice, a beloved father, musician, and educator, passed away peacefully in his home in Amherst, Virginia, on May 25, 2024. Born in Campbell County, Virginia, Perry was the son of the late George and Anna Brice. His life was marked by a deep love for music, a commitment to education, and a warm connection with his community.
From an early age, Perry’s passion for music was ignited by his grandfather. He played various instruments and participated in music groups throughout his school years. He stepped in as the substitute band director while attending high school. His talent and dedication led him to study music at Virginia State College, where he honed his skills. Perry eventually became a band director at Rustburg High School, leaving a lasting impact on countless students. Locally, he was a member of the music group “The Vistatones” during the 1970s.
After his music career, Perry transitioned to electronics. He worked for 25 years at Radio Shack, contributing to the ever-evolving world of technology. Even in retirement, his passion for teaching persisted, as he returned to substitute teaching for 14 Perry was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he found solace and community. His warm spirit touched the lives of many, including his children, grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Perry is survived by his children: Nathaniel Diuguid (Fannie), Beatrice Bynum (Billy), and Eula Diuguid (mother of the children). His grandchildren, Brianna Bynum Morgan Diuguid and Whitney Tillman, brought him immense joy. Among his siblings are Dubois Brice (Patricia), George Brice (Dorothy), and Phyllis Brice.
In addition to his parents, Perry was predeceased by his sister Bonnie Brice stepson, Master Sgt. Michael Lee Diuguid. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
Memorial Service: A memorial service to celebrate Perry’s life will be held on June 1, 2024, at 12:30 PM at Tharp Funeral Home in Madison Heights, Virginia.
