Peter L. Holman

d. February 28, 2019

Peter Lindsey Holman went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the age of 65. Peter was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was generous of spirit and continually thought of the well-being of others. Throughout his life he maintained a passion for learning and enjoyed sharing his discoveries and knowledge of his latest endeavors with everyone he met. His breadth and depth of knowledge on a wide variety of topics made him a true renaissance man. Peter was led to a saving faith in Jesus Christ 40 years ago by his wife. Together they built a loving Christ centered home for their three sons.

Peter leaves behind his wife, LaWanna of 40 years; three sons, Keith L. Holman and his wife, Linley, Peter Matthew Holman and his wife, Lindsey, and Ryan. His two grandchildren, Luke and Anna, were an extra blessing God bestowed on him. Pete also leaves behind his older brother, Keith T. Holman and his wife, Jackie, along with their adult children Christopher and Tracy. He was preceded in death by his father, Harlan Holman and his mother, Bette T. Holman.

Peter was born in Bronxville, N.Y. and moved around the world as his father served as a colonel in the US Army. After settling down in Hampton, Va., he attended Hampton Roads Academy. He earned a Bachelor’s as well as a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Virginia. Following college, his experience in the nuclear engineering field allowed him to work for 34 years at Areva, now Framatome.

His hobbies included Civil War re-enacting, where he devoted 13 years as the director of the Va. Grays Fife and Drum Corps, leading 17 young men who performed at re-enactments and also at the Virginia Military Institute. His collection of HO scale model trains and a complete layout with hand built structures; his collection of cameras, ship models and his mineral collection were just a few of his interests.

A service celebrating his life will be conducted at Forest Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 5, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Dr. Tyler Scarlett, the pastor at FBC, and Dr. Gaylen Leverett will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at the Forest Baptist Church cemetery.
