Peter Presley Thornton

Peter Presley Thornton, 22, of Lynchburg died January 18, 2014 from injuries sustained in a fall. Peter was born June 14, 1991 and was the unconditionally and absolutely loved son of Danny and Melissa Thornton of Lynchburg.

 He is also survived by his cherished grandmother, Donna Hefner of Roanoke, three aunts: Christine Foster of Monroe, Becky Pryor of Pleasant View and his dearly loved aunt Barbara Allen of Monroe; an uncle, T.D. Thornton (Ginny) of Forest; his girlfriend Katey Proffitt of Lynchburg, many close cousins and much loved friends.

 Peter was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dr. Charles Hefner of Roanoke, his paternal grandparents; Susie and Presley Thornton of Pleasant View, three uncles: Rev. Robert Foster, who baptized Peter in the Pedlar River as a boy, Nick Pryor and Don Allen.

 Peter graduated from James River Day School, E.C. Glass High School and attended Central Virginia Community College where he studied Business Administration. He was the owner of PPT Properties, LLC, a property management firm in Lynchburg and also was a Leasing Agent for Brownstone Properties.

 Peter loved sports and played on school and travel teams including basketball, tennis and his favorite, soccer. In the last few years Peter developed a passion for golf and loved to play at every opportunity. His new golden retriever puppy, Bryer, was a source of much joy.

 Peter enjoyed cooking and loved nothing more than preparing a scrumptious dinner for his family and friends. He was also an avid dirt biker but most cherished just spending time with family and close friends. His quick wit, infectious laugh and all-engulfing hug will forever be missed.

 A Memorial Service for Peter will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday January 21, 2014 at Peakland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. John Vest officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. A private family interment will be at Thornton Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to The VMI Keydet Club, Attn: Peter Thornton Memorial Athletic Scholarship, P.O. Box 932, Lexington, Va. 24450 or to the YMCA of Central Virginia.
