Philip A. Woods, Sr.

Philip Algernon Woods, Sr., 77 of Big Island passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. He was born on March 9, 1941 in Roanoke Co., VA. A son of the late Ralph Woods and Mildred Wright Woods. In addition to his parents Philip was preceded in death by an infant child Robert Woods. Philip served his country in the United States Army. He was a carpenter by trade and loved working with his hands, gardening, making furniture for his family, and loved sweets especially candy.

Philip is survived by his wife and care taker, Frances Tolley Woods; three children, Virginia Anne Barlow, Roxanne Ratliff and Philip Woods, Jr and his wife, Carol; a special granddaughter and care taker Ashley Ratliff, four additional grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; one sister; six brothers and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

A graveside service and celebration of Philip’s life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Big Island with Pastor Mike Watkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00pm on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory Bedford.
