Phillip Lee “Phill” Coleman

Phillip Lee “Phill” Coleman, 68, of Forest, Virginia passed away on October 11, 2021, after a long illness. In his television language, he would say, “It’s time to put the sign-off cart on and leave.” He was preceded in death by his parents.

Born on April 5, 1953, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Elmo Wilbur “Jack” Coleman and Ruth Parker Coleman of Lynchburg. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and was employed at WSET-TV in the engineering department for almost 40 years. He was passionate about television, TV broadcasting, and everything related. He met his wife while they both worked at the TV station. He was a member of Euclid Christian Church in Lynchburg.

Phill is survived by his wife, Deborrah Brown “Deb” Coleman, and his two feline daughters, Callee Louise and Sassee Lee.  Other survivors include his brother, Steve Coleman, and his wife, Bonnie, and his sister, June Dollinger, all of Lynchburg. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and TV friends.  He was also loved by Betty Witt and Donald Ray Brown, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, of Forest, and Cindy and John Hayth, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, of Salem.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
