Phillip Taswell Sutphin

Phillip Taswell Sutphin, 69, of Evington, VA, died Thursday, November 11, 2010.  He was the husband of Sheron Lee Sutphin for 48 years.

Phillip was born Tuesday, May 13, 1941 in Pulaski County, VA; a son of the late Edith Sirt Sutphin and Taswell Sutphin.

In addition to his wife, Phillip is survived by four sons Phillip David Sutphin and his wife, Travain, of Forest, Brian Joseph Sutphin, of St. Leonard, MD, Marcus Timothy Sutphin and his wife, Melissa, of Forest, Stephen Matthew Sutphin and his wife, Cathy, of Evington, 14 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, a brother, Maynard Sutphin and his wife, Glenna, of Pulaski, VA, and a sister, Betty Wagner and her husband, Willis, of Kingsport, TN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Blankenship, and three brothers, Emory, Everett, and Vernon.

Phillip was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an avid reader, who would read anything he could get his hands on. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the US Destroyer; Kenneth D. Bailey, as a radio man. He was retired from Great Coastal Trucking, where he was a dispatcher.

A celebration of Phillip's life will be conducted at 2 PM on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Luke Farwell officiating.  The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Virginia Memorial Park, Forest.
