Phillippa Deford Shorter Glover
Phillippa DeFord Shorter Glover, born 29 September 1920, in Darlington Heights, VIrginia, died Sunday, 22 December 2013, at home after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harry Glover.
A graduate of Darlington Heights High School and Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, she served proudly in the US Navy Nurse Corps during World War II.
She is survived by three children: Christina Wallerstein and husband David of Pasadena, CA, Cary Glover and his wife Carolyn of Forest and Mark Glover and his wife Laura of Appomattox.
Grandchildren include Edward Wallerstein and wife Laura of Pasadena, CA, Patrick Glover and wife Jeannette, Zachary Glover and Lindsey Glover of Appomattox, Dan Lovern and wife Laura of Amherst, Katie Tuck and husband Keith of Moneta, and Jenifer Quilodran and husband Dave of Forest. Eight great grandchildren called her Grandma Great.
She is survived by two sisters, Edna Willis of Erwin, TN, and Theresa Barron of Charlotte Court House, VA, numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends and preceded in death by one brother, William Edward Shorter and four sisters: Cassie Cowger, Mary Robertson, Della Katherine Shorter and Linda Shreck.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice, her numerous caregivers and loving friends and neighbors.
Family will receive friends on Monday, 23 December 2013, from six until eight o'clock at Tharp Funeral Home and at other times at the family home.
A celebration of her life will occur on Tuesday, 24 December, at 11 o'clock at Timberlake United Methodist Church.
