Phyllis Harper Parker Burchette

November 6, 1941 — February 16, 2024

Lynchburg

Phyllis Harper Parker Burchette, 82, of Lynchburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 16, 2024. Born in South Carolina on November 6, 1941, she was a daughter of Johnnie Andrew Harper and Marie Wright Harper.  She was twice married, first to Robert (Bobby) Parker and later to Ronald (Ronnie) Burchette for 41 years until his passing in 2018.

She is survived by her son Maurice Parker and his wife Pam, her daughter Lawana P. Dillard, stepdaughter Annette Gilbert and her husband Rob, grandson Robert Parker, step grandson John “Robbie” Gilbert and his wife Brittany, step great granddaughter Skarlett, former spouse Bobby Parker and a host of nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers Carroll Harper and Bobby Harper, her sister Lois Guthrie, son in law Bob Dillard, stepson Scott Burchette and special niece Vickie Campbell.

Phyllis was retired from C. B. Fleet and was a lifelong member of Mt. View Church of God and attended Tree of Life Ministries. Phyllis was a friend to all and there was never a dull moment when she was in the room. She loved music and it was a constant companion to her other favorite things, cleaning up and traveling (although she was always ready to “hurry up and get back home”). She loved animals and always had a furry companion until she was no longer able to care for them; then she just enjoyed her grandfurs. We always told her she missed her calling as a detective; there was never a suspense movie or tv show that she didn’t figure out the ending to long before it arrived. It worked that way in our lives too, so getting a step ahead of her was near impossible.

We would like to thank our extended families at Tate Springs Health and Rehab for the exemplary care they provided for the last four and a half years and Promedica Hospice for the exemplary care provided in recent months.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg with Pastor Lonnie Wickard and Associate Pastor Desi Justis officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Mt. View Church of God, Lynchburg, VA or Tree of Life Ministries, Lynchburg, VA.

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8
