Phyllis Hazel Knowles, 75, of Lynchburg, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late Malcolm “Mac” Knowles.
Phyllis was born Thursday, June 4, 1942 in Lynchburg, Va., a daughter of the late Frank Martin and the late Florence Martin. She was retired from Heritage High School where she worked as a cook. Phyllis was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Charles “Buddy” Tyree (Julie) of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Kristin Lakes (Jeremy) of Appomattox, Zachary Tyree, and Morgan Tyree, both of Lynchburg; siblings, Frank “Jimmy” Martin (Rosa) of Rustburg and Carolyn Fuller (Lee) of Amherst; great-grandchildren, Elijah Lakes, Ava Lakes, and Olive Lakes, all of Appomattox; a special niece, Michelle DiNardo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Varner.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Dan Manley officiating.
