Phyllis "Jean" Owen Overstreet, 90, of Bedford, Virginia passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024. Jean was born on December 20, 1933, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Reed W. “Billy” Owen and Jane Pugh Owen.
In addition to Jean’s parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Clarence E. “Little Billy” Owen, a grandchild, Bethany Fowler, and her former husband, Sherril R. “Buddy” Overstreet.
Jean is survived by her sister, Bonnie O. Armes (Benny); three daughters, Reneﹶ O. Nichols (Raymond), Dana J. Overstreet (Farley Martin), and Tracy O. Gibson (Glenn); seven grandchildren, Justin Nichols, Lindsey Nichols, Kenny Fowler, Matt Fowler, Erin Roberts, Kyle Gibson, and Ashlyn Gibson; and eight great-grandchildren.
Jean was well known in the Town of Bedford as she worked thirteen years, starting in the mid-sixties, at Goode’s Shoe Shop & Sporting Goods on Bridge Street where everyone could get their Virginia license plates. Then, when Bedford got its own Department of Motor Vehicles branch, she went there and worked for twenty years before retiring.
An informal “Celebration of Life” get-together for all of Jean’s family and friends will be held at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford from 1:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
