Phyllis Peters O’Brien, 85, of Lynchburg died Saturday July 16, 2016. She was the loving wife of the late George Edward O’Brien.
Phyllis was born in Lynchburg on September 30, 1930 a daughter of the late Eugene Bell Peters and Dorothy Sale Peters. Phyllis was a graduate of Holy Cross Regional Catholic School and was retired from Nationwide Insurance. She was also an active parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
She is survived by her two sons, Mike O’Brien (Tina) of Greensboro, NC, and John O’Brien of Roanoke, three daughters, Teresa O. Wohlford of Lynchburg, Karen O. Knowles of Lynchburg, and Trish O. Strain (Mac) of Charlotte, NC, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Edward O’Brien, a sister Dorothy M. Peters, one brother Eugene Melvin Peters, and one son-in-law M. Douglas Knowles.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass for Phyllis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. James Gallagher as celebrant. A reception will follow the service, with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
