Pietro Nillo Colpo

Pete entered into eternal life on Sunday, September 29, 2013 after a courageous battle with a recent illness. He spent his final days peacefully surrounded by his family\"™s love. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, Max and Maria, his brothers, Babe, Luch and John, and his sister, Margaret.

Pete grew up in Curtisville, Pennsylvania. After serving his country in the U. S. Navy in World War II, he graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and became a math teacher at West Deer Township High School. From there, he went to work at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida where he worked with rocket development and found his passion for computers. This led to a 30+ year career at Babcock and Wilcox as a computer programmer.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Pete is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia; a brother: Leo (Julie); four children: Karen (Pete), Charles (Debra), Peter (Pam), Mary (Kevin); seven grandchildren: Stephanie, Bailey, Sydney, Max, Laurel (Bob), Ryan, Aaron; three great-grandchildren: Abigail, Charlie and Samuel.

A member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Pete spent many volunteer hours there, as well as with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid sports fan, especially of any team from Pittsburgh, and loved to play cards with family and friends.   He enjoyed running and participated in several Virginia Ten-Milers over the years.

To his family he gave unconditional love. Our world is diminished without him.

A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502, on Wednesday, October 2 at 5:15 pm. The family will receive visitors at the church at 4:15 pm. The mass will be followed by a reception at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Habitat for Humanity, 360 Alleghany Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1388, Lynchburg, VA 24505.
