Polly Holbrook Peters, 86, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August, 16, 2024 surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and three sisters.
She is survived by her two children, Jean Peters Parnell of Midlothian, VA and Patrick Wayne Peters (Tanya) of Lubbock, TX, and her sister, Helen Alba, of Roanoke, VA.
In addition to her two children, Polly is survived by her four grandsons, Nicholas Parnell (Lauren) of Dallas, TX, Collin Parnell of Chattanooga, TN, William Peters of Lubbock, Texas, and Cole Peters of Lubbock, TX.
Polly was born in Cabin Creek, West Virginia and moved to Lynchburg in 1960. In 1968 she began her career at Central Virginia Community College (CVCC). During her career she worked in the Word Processing Center, the Business & Allied Health Division, the Science, Math, and Engineering Division, and finished in the Dean of Instruction’s office. While at CVCC, Polly earned her AAS degree in 1993. She retired in 2002, only to return part-time until 2012. She was a longtime member of Timberlake United Methodist Church where she enjoyed working in the church garden and could be found counting the offering most Sundays after service. She was a devoted volunteer to Meals on Wheels and Road to Recovery, among others. She participated in many mission trips traveling to Southwest VA, New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and Pennsylvania.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to her friends that were so wonderful about visiting particularly when Polly’s health began declining. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the wonderfully kind and overly competent staff at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg Memory Care, where we know you all will remember Polly’s feisty spirit.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg at 2 p.m. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
