Preston Lloyd Burns, Sr.

Preston L. “Hunkus” Burns, Sr., 69, of Bedford, died Saturday, November 15, 2014. He was the loving husband of Dianne L. Burns for forty-eight years.
Born on October 2, 1945, Preston was the son of the late Boyd E. Burns and the late Carrie L. Burns. He began his career at Lynchburg Ready-Mix and then moved on to Bedford Ready-Mix as a general manager with a total of forty-seven years with the company. Preston served as a deacon at Timber Ridge Baptist Church, where he and his wife taught Sunday school class for individuals with special needs for fifteen years.
In addition to his parents, Preston was preceded in death by his son, Preston L. Burns, Jr; four brothers: Samuel L. Burns, Allen E. Burns, Sr., Sidney W. Burns, Sr., and J. Odell Burns, Sr.; and two sisters: Barbara Burns Bowen and Elizabeth B.B. Dickerson.
As well as his wife, Preston is survived by three sons: Jonathan D. Burns, Michael A. Burns and his wife, Jessica, and Jason A. Burns and his wife, Shiela; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Eric Burns and his wife, Lisa; his sister, Vivian Hocket and her husband, Dennis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Monday, November 17, 2014, at Timber Ridge Baptist Church from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service was held at Timber Ridge Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phillip T. Kelley officiating. Interment followed at Virginia Memorial Park.
