Rachel Murray Anderson

Rachel Murray Anderson, 95, of Thaxton, VA passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. She was born in Bedford County, VA on September 15, 1928, a daughter of the late Frederick Murray and Mary Murray Tate. Rachel was also preceded in death by her husband, James Otey “Andy” Anderson, Sr, and brothers Cecil, Harry, Freddie, Woodrow, and Hugh Murray 

Rachel was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for many years. She took great pride in taking care of her family and genuinely loved and cared for her friends and others. Rachel enjoyed feeding birds and could be described as easy to love. She will be missed by all who knew her. 

Rachel is survived by her son, Jimmy Anderson; daughters, Debbie A. Roberts (Larry); Rhonda A. Maxey (Tim), Christi A. Dickerson (Russell); grandsons, Jeff Anderson, Brent Dickerson (Taylor), and Brandon Dickerson (Kaysi); great- grandson, Axton Dickerson; special friend, Orpha Lee Hatcher and numerous nieces and nephews and other family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.  In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to: Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or The National D-Day Memorial Foundation.
