Ralph Thacker, Sr of Montvale passed away on Sunday May 23, 2021.
Born May 4, 1947, in Holden, WV., he is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Thacker and mother, Evelyn Hill Thacker; daughters, Kelli and Krystal; and sons, Juston and Ralph Jr.
He is survived by son Matthew, brother Lawrence, sisters Lynda, Gale, and Joyce.
Ralph worked in the coal mines of WV and in car sales in Roanoke, but he was most proud of his service to his country. He was a decorated US marine who served his country during the Vietnam War. Ralph received the purple heart along with the silver and bronze stars for his valor.
He found peace later in life by building his dream town which happened to be inspired by all the western movies he loved to watch. He found joy and happiness in riding horses with family and friends. He spent years passing his knowledge and love down to his granddaughter.
In recognition of his service and the family sacrifices of many, his granddaughter, Madison Hartman, is requesting donations be made to New Freedom Farms, a non-profit organization supporting veterans who suffer with PTSD through equine therapy. Donations can be made at Newfreedomfarm.org or by mail to P.O. Box 125 Buchanan, Va., 24066.
