Randall Fischer

d. February 5, 2016

Randall “Randy” Fischer died Friday, February 5, 2016. His parents were Mildred and William Fischer, both deceased, of Buffalo Lake, MN.

Randy grew up on his parents’ farm. He graduated from Buffalo Lake High School and attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and then the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus.

He enlisted in the U S Air force in 1952. After basic training he trained and became a Tower Control Operator. He went to Officer’s Training School and then to Flight School and graduated in 1954. The majority of his flight hours were in the C-130. After countless missions and a tour in Vietnam, he retired after 23 years.

On January 1, 1954 Randy married Ione Hanson at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Windom, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children: their older daughter Nancy and husband Victor Evans, their son David and wife Joie, daughter Karen and her husband Eric Kenny. Randy dearly loved and enjoyed eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson: Kelsie Evans, husband Douglas Woodhouse and Reed, Tori and husband Mathieu Devillers, Julie Evans, Jacob Fischer, Cassie Fischer, Kristen Kenny, Margaret Kenny and Michael Kenny.

Randy enjoyed most any sport but especially loved horseback riding. He and Ione realized a dream in 1980 when they bought a horse farm near Raeford, North Carolina. There they bred, raised, trained and showed Arabian horses. The grandchildren have many great memories of the farm.

In 2000 they moved to Lynchburg where they spent many happy hours watching the grandchildren play a variety of sports.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church became their church home. There they nurtured their faith and made many new friends. They found a real sense of belonging. Special thanks to Pastor Dennis Roberts and to the Church Family for all their love and support.

Thank you to all the nurses, social workers and hospice caretakers at Westminster Canterbury who treated Randy with care and dignity.

A memorial service for Randy will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
