Randall Wilson Wegman, 81, of Gladys, Virginia went home to go fishing on Sunday September 17, 2023. He was the son of the late Henry William Wegman and Nevie Elizabeth Helmick Wegman.
Randall was born on June 28, 1942, in Valley Bend, West Virginia. He attended school at Bradley Mountain School, then served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After serving, he pursued a career in mechanics.
Randall is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Evelene Dorsey Wegman of Gladys, Va., four daughters, Cheri Lynn Smith, Ronda Wegman Williams (Steven), Kathlene Wegman Thomas (David), Tammie Wegman Griffin (Brian) and son Danny Kevin Herald Jr. (Christy); grandchildren: David Allen Thomas, Randy Allen Foster, Tabitha Ann Downey, Brian Hunter Griffin, Stefanie Evelene Morris, Taylor Wilson Griffin and Toni Nicole Thomas; great- grandchildren: Tristin and Jacob Herald, Evan, Alexis and Owen Foster, Eli and Emily Downey and Claire Griffin; siblings: Thelma Wegman Bender, William Firl Wegman (Bonnie) and Garnett David Wegman (Delora); and many loving friends in the community.
Semper Fi: He was proud to be a Marine and served his country. He loved his family with all his heart, enjoyed fishing and hunting for Morel mushrooms and building keepsake furniture for his family. His faithful canine companion Shadow went everywhere with him, even on the boat fishing. Mechanics and cars was his lifelong passion.
One of his family’s favorite sayings from him was when he would look in the mirror and say, “Boy there’s a good-looking SOB looking back at me.” Every day when he would walk out the door for work, he would say, “Time to make the donuts.”
In addition to his parents, Randall was preceded in death by his grandson Joseph Wayne Thomas and brother-in-law James “Bud” Bender.
“When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.”
In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Disabled American Veterans or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
As per Randalls wishes, there will be no visitation or services. He will be returning home to West Virginia.
