Randolph “Hunt” Irvin Austin, Sr. departed this life on Saturday, May 27, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Austin; his father, Charles Bailey; sister, Della Mae Briscoe; uncle, Harry T. Austin.
Left to cherish Hunt’s memory are his wife of 48 years, Peggy Smith Austin; two sons, Randolph Irvin Austin, Jr. and wife, Karen, and Shawn Brown; one daughter, Deidre A. Rose and husband, Joseph; one sister, Lillian A. Jones and husband, Larry; two grandchildren, Cameryn Austin and Tyus Brown; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. Hunt was a member of The Black Moses Club. He was a Dunbar High School graduate in the class of 1965. He coached little league basketball for R.S. Payne. He was an outdoorsman and was an avid collector of guns and knives. Hunt loved his family and always knew how to have a good time.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Rivermont Baptist Church with Pastor Byron J. Elliot officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Hunt will lie in repose one hour prior to the service and on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 through Friday, June 2, 2017 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day. Interment will follow the funeral service at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
