Randolph Hayden Rhodes, 63, of Lynchburg, died on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Born Thursday, July 31, 1947 in Roanoke, Virginia, Randy was a son of the late John Henry Rhodes and the late Ruth Lockhart Rhodes. He was the husband of Margaret Zamorski Rhodes.
In addition to his wife, Randy is survived by a son, Ronald Wayne Rhodes of Lynchburg; two daughters, Laura Ann Henson and her husband, Amon, of Madison Heights, and Erin Kendal Ashwell and her husband, Joseph, III, of Rustburg; four grandchildren, Jacob Tyler Henson, Noah Matthew Henson, Liam Nathaniel Henson, and Haidyn Grace Ashwell; two step grandchildren, Joseph Rucker Ashwell, IV, and Gavin Montgomery Ashwell; three brothers, Larry Wayne Rhodes of Roanoke, VA, Terry Lee Rhodes of Roanoke, VA and Timmy Ray Rhodes and his wife, Pam, of Salem, VA; and a special friend and caregiver, Ruth E. Corby, of Lynchburg.
Randy was a very quiet and private person, who had a great sense of humor. Besides his love for his family, Randy loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, and metal detecting for Civil War relics. Randy was a hard worker, who was very dedicated to his job at Areva, where he was employed for forty four years. He served our country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Waldron, as a gunner\"™s mate.
A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, Madison Heights, with Rev. Dr. Derik Hamby officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
