On October 23, 2016, Randolph Ward Hudson, Jr. passed away. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Kayleigh, Maggie, and Randolph III; his siblings, Irby, Tyree, and Mary Carter; his nephews, Michael, Hadley, Preston, and Bill; his niece, Elizabeth; his granddaughter, Stella; and his four-legged children, Tri and Obie (we know they were the favorites, and we’re okay with that.)
On August 13, 1941, Mr. Handsome Movie Star, himself, was born and Lynchburg was changed forever. Women liked him, and men wanted to be like him. At 119lbs, “Ranny” tried out for the football team at E.C. Glass but decided to not make the team because chicks dig musicians more anyway. Twenty years into his piano career, he proved himself right when he married his beautiful and intelligent wife. Anyone who was graced by Ranny’s presence can tell you of his legendary quick wit, his unmatched talent on the piano (despite missing half his fingers on one hand—chicks also dig scars), countless stories from all stages of his life, or “oh yeah I always saw him walking the dogs on Rivermont” from which he earned the title “The Beagle Man.” Ranny had a knack for turning ordinary activities, like buying a giant metal chicken, into something extraordinary, like a crazy old man wandering around alone downtown carrying a giant metal chicken talking to strangers.
We would like to offer our condolences to the khaki corduroy industry which we predict will take a hit from the passing of its number one consumer. What can we say, the man had a style, and it was the only style he wore every day. His commitment to his style and routine helped keep him going for 6 years despite cancer doing its best to bring him down. It is a possibility that he allowed the fight to end to spare himself potentially witnessing the beginning of the end of America this election. A visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Court Street United Methodist Church in Lynchburg.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
