Randy F. Childress, 87, of Evington, Virginia passed away on May 25, 2024. He was the son of the late George Thomas Childress and Cora Childress Burch and the husband of Patricia Farmer Childress for 65 years.

Randy was born on March 25, 1937 in Altavista, Virginia and raised by Fitzhugh and Mabel Holland after the death of his father. He went on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corp in the Korean War, serving from 1954-1957. After his service, he was a long-haul truck driver for several local and national large trucking companies.

Randy was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. Known for his love of birds, gardening, and pets, Papa was always ready to hand out $5 bills when the grandkids came to visit. They will always think of him when they smell strong coffee or a fragrant pipe.

Besides his wife, Randy is survived by his daughters Tammy Brammer and Vicky Delrue (Joe) and his sons Brady Childress (Cindy) and Brent (Kim); grandchildren Brittany Gilbert (Justin), Cory Brammer (Ashley), Sierra Fowler (Derek), Carmen Wright (Keith), Elizabeth Burneson (Brandon), Amanda Childress, Savannah Thurman (John), and Dakota Wilson; great-grandchildren Avery Gilbert, Nora Fowler, Emma Brammer, Millie Fowler, Rae Wright, Everett Brammer, Levi Fowler, Lucia Burneson, and Lucas Thurman; and son-in-law, Danny Wilson.

In addition to his parents, Randy is predeceased by his brother Willie Childress, sisters Mary Fulcher and Margaret Johnson, daughter Connie Wilson, and son-in-law Bobby Brammer.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of Centra Hospice for their loving support throughout the last few months.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity about which Randy was very passionate.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
