Randall Lee “Randy” Byers, 67, of Big Island, VA passed away on, Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on December 7, 1953, in Bedford, Va. A son of the late, Frank Melvin Byers, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Wilson Byers. In addition to his parents Randy was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Blanks.
Randy was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church where he and his wife Cheryl were so passionate about the Operation Christmas Child Program of packing Christmas boxes and sending them all over the world. He retired from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill with 30 plus years of service. Randy loved his family time especially spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in previous years. His love was very evident, and he will be missed greatly by all that knew him.
Randy is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cheryl Shepheard Byers, three children, Spring “Sissy” Burks and her husband J.R., Shannon Byers and his wife, Robin and Brian Byers and his wife, Sheree; 13 grandchildren, Cole, Trevor and his wife, Sarah, Gabriella, Kenzi, Drake (Anna), Chance (Megan) Lai’Lah, Jake, Khamerhyn, Kadin, Kaylee, Andrew and Gage; greatgrandchildren, Luke, Mason and Baby Byers to be announced; Siblings, Rita Baity and husband, Paul, Phyllis Martin and husband, Roger, Frankie Byers and wife, Shelby, Ronnie Byers and wife, Lisa, and Bonnie Childress and husband, Terry; Brother-in-law, Gerald Blanks; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his four legged companions Scooter and Twilight.

A funeral service and celebration of Randy’s life will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Hunting Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with a meal and fellowship to follow at Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:30 on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, also at Hunting Creek Baptist Church. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, is assisting the family.
