Ray H. “Woo” Detamore

Ray H. \"Woo\" Detamore, 68, of Bedford, died unexpectedly, Thursday, August 8, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of Barbara Nichols Detamore. 

Born October 3, 1944, Ray was a son of the late Robert Lee Detamore and Sallie Julia Bradley Detamore Holland. Ray served his country in the Navy, and he went on to work at Bedford Weaving Mill as a foreman for 41 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his daughters: Mitzi Kay Detamore (Keith) of Bedford, Kathy Detamore Woody (Shaun) of Zion Crossroads, and Heather Renee Detamore; a brother, Joe Detamore; a half-sister, Pamela Ann Holland; and four grandchildren: Tiffany Nicole Sharp, Hannah Grace Detamore, Nicholas Christian Bernard, and Elizabeth Kathryn Detamore, all of Bedford.

In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by three brothers: Thomas David Detamore, Charles Bradley Detamore, and Richard Alfred Detamore.

Ray loved spending time in his vegetable and flower gardens, tending to his fish ponds, and playing billiards. He also enjoyed a variety of sports, including fast pitch softball and bowling. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.   A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, August 12, 2013 in Tharp Funeral Chapel at 10:00 AM with Reverend Ray Lyons officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
