Ray West

Ray West, Jr, 83, of Lynchburg, VA, went to his home in Heaven Friday, June 15, 2012.

 Born October 5, 1928 in Lynchburg, VA he was a son of the late Walter Carlton West and the late Unie Perdue.

 He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Doris West. Ray is also survived by two sons: Kenneth R. West and his wife, Carolyn, of Forest, VA; Carlton L. West and his wife, Teresa, of Forest, VA; a daughter Sharon W. Johnson and her husband, Mike, who was like a son to him, of Lynchburg, VA.; six grandchildren: Brent West of Alexandria, VA., Jason West of Lynchburg, VA., Tracey Stanton and her husband, Chris, of Charlottesville, VA, Ashley Fields and her husband, Chris of Forest, VA., Amy Johnson, of Wilmington, NC, and Allison West of Lynchburg, VA.; four great grandchildren; Jacob West, Alex West, Christian Fields and Tyler Stanton; two sisters: Louise Scruggs and her husband, Wesley, of Lynchburg and Shirley Harris and her husband, C.W., of Lynchburg; one brother: Melvin West and his wife, Vangie of Roanoke, VA. a sister-in-law Nancy Langford of Lynchburg, VA., and numerous nieces and nephews.

 In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Brooks and a brother, Lewis West.

 Ray was a retired self-employed Paint Contractor for many years. He was also a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy. His favorite hobby was going to yard sales.

 Many thanks to Allison for taking care of her pop during his illness and to Pastor Gary Vernon for his many prayers and visits.

 The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Vernon officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
