Raymond Gibbs Gardner

Raymond Gibbs Gardner, 89, of Thaxton, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Springtree Health and Rehab. Born in Bedford on June 20, 1926, a son of the late Willie Gardner and Mary Falls Gardner. In addition to his parents Ray was preceded in death by his loving and faithful wife, Dorothy Geraldine Lantz Gardner; two sons, Jerry Gardner and Gary Gardner; a grandson, Jonathan Moncada; and his step-father, John Gardner.

Ray loved spending time in the outdoors. He enjoyed mowing grass and doing his yard work. He also loved spending time with his family, friends and his cat, “Hoss”. He proudly served our nation in the U.S. Navy. Ray worked for 55 plus years for Hammonds Printing Company as a Print Tech before retiring at the age of 75.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Moncada and her husband, Larry; grandchildren, Tirzah Anderson and her husband, Jeff, Maria Moncada, Gabriel Moncada, Joni Goff and her husband, Jeremy, Debbie Locklear and her husband, Bobby, and Gary Eades; great-grandchildren, Tyler Hatcher, Dylan Hatcher, Maressa Prah, Haley Saunders, Hannah Goff, Meagan Eades, Austin Eades, Anna Eades, Taylor Locklear, and Ryan Locklear; great-great-grandchildren, Kiley Rae Prah; a special niece, Susan Markam and her husband, Glenn; also two daughters-in-law, Brenda Gardner and Nancy Gardner. Also many loving friends.

A Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Donnie G. Glass officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
