Raymond Leroy Judd, 89, of Huddleston was given his wings on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke. He was the loving husband of Lorraine Mildred Schilstra Judd.
Born on July 17, 1928 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Vernon Clarence Judd and Minnie Strenske Judd.
Raymond served his country in the United States Navy from 1946-1948. He graduated from Penn State in 1952 with a BOS in Industrial Engineering. Shortly after moved to New Jersey and started a family wife Patricia Louise Hilliard Judd and had four children. Raymond was a member of the Masonic Lodge #194 and was a past master in 1966, and continued his membership for life. He was recently awarded the 60 year service award and pin. Ray has always been heavily involved with his civic duties. Friend of Smith Mountain Lake Park, Smith Mountain Pilots Club, Young Eagles, 1000 Mission award, OEB Original Energizer Bunny, QB’s Quiet Birdmen (men’s aviation group), Honor Flight, EAA Experimental Aviation Association, Chapters #3 and #8, D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA and many more.
In addition to his wife Lorraine, he is survived by his children: Gregory Judd and wife, Cynthia, Larry Judd and wife, Lorie, LaVerne Aldrich; Stepchildren: Diane Van Hoff and her husband, Paul Mortensen, Linda Jaszyn and husband Rick; grandchildren: Tommy Bell, Erica Anger and husband, Mike, Jessica Reyes, Matthew Jaszyn, and Alex Jaszyn.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Tim Hahn officiating. There will be a reception to follow at the Masonic Lodge #95, 1900 Longwood Avenue, Bedford, VA 24523.
