Raymonda Lane Payne was born on February 18, 1969, the only child of Raymond L. Smith, deceased and Charlene Payne Pannell. She was also raised and loved by Harry Pannell whom she received and shared in his fatherly love with her little sister Monique Payne Reid.
Both mother and daughter are preceded in death by their Grandparents (Great) Isaac and Mildred Davis Payne, Aunts (Great) Willie Ann Payne Rose, Vivian Williams, and Alfreda Payne, Uncle Terry Lee Payne, and dear cousin Derrick Lee Payne.
Raymonda graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA and later chose the path of providing customer service in the food industry. During this time, she never met a stranger. Raymonda met many coworkers who grew to be close friends and family.
Life took a shift for our dear Raymonda, and after dealing with addiction, she made strides to turning her life around by relocating to Raleigh, NC. There is where “Ray Ray” made a home away from home with her daughter, Shannan. Raymonda found many friends who grew as family on her path of healing.
Raymonda was a fighter and exuded determination. This came as a blessing when faced with medical challenges requiring weekly dialysis. She never gave up!!!! She prayed for a kidney and never doubted. Her relationship with God increased her positivity and no matter what she was faced with daily, she found her own special way to spread love to others. Whether it was a Bible verse, morning inspiration, or a smile she shared through her photos. Raymonda’s family continued to grow and form a bigger family on her spiritual and healing journey.
Whether you met her as “Ray Ray” from Birchwood or Raymonda of Raleigh, her presence and impact was amazing and will forever be memorable to her close friends and her dear family.
Family… Raymonda loved and adored her family so much. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving, supportive, and nurturing mother Charlene Payne Pannell, her baby sister Monique and Brother-in-law Marcus Reid Sr.who always had her back and loved her unconditionally. Raymonda’s love for her nieces and nephews, Montreal, Faith Guedo, and Hope was undeniable. Each visit came with fun and excitement for the kids and will be missed dearly. Raymonda’s memory will also live on through her dear and closet Best friend, Sister, Cousin Amanda LaPrade.”Ray Ray” has a host of suppoertive and loving friends. She made them a priority in her life. They will forever remember and carry on the youth, life, and adventures of “Ray Ray”.
Raymonda was joined on her journey to Heaven by her beautiful daughter, Shannan.
Shannan Ogletha Payne was born on August 5, 1989 to the late Raymonda Lanae Payne and father Manfred Jay Hamm. Shannan, in addition to her maternal Payne family, she is preceded in death, of her paternal side, Grandmother Bethina R. Hamm, Grandfather Eugene S. Hamm, and sister Dahkiya Benson. Shannan leaves behind to cherish her memory, her baby cousins Martrell, Faith, Guedo and Hope, her Uncle Roger Hamm, her sister, whom she had a special relationship with, Stephanie S. Austin, brother Lucas Dillard, and Best friend whom was also her Stepsister, Khrsity Thomas.
Shannan, our sweet “Shae Baby” gone too soon, was so much fun to be around. From her infectious laugh to her sassy and fun loving vibe, she was amazing. Shannan’s young and vibrant personality spread amongst her family especially her cousins. Shannan and her cousins were like best friends especially Faith, Maine, and Winkie. All of them together always developed into a room filled with laughter, cracking jokes, dancing, and love!!!! Cousins are like your siblings and with them all, they carried a family vibe we all desired.
Shannan admired her Aunt Monique, who also played the role of big sister, mother, and friend throughout her life, but not as much as her Auntie admired her. She watched her grow up to the woman she became and always felt obligated and blessed to make sure she was taken care of and safe. Auntie will forever miss her Shae Baby, her first experience in being a future mom.
Shannan also found herself in the NC female biker group, SGO, So Glamours Ones and loved her sisters of the club. Shannan also was surrounded by wonderful friends she called her sisters and will forever carry her memory.
