Rebecca Faye O'Connor-Wuergler

d. March 24, 2016

Rebecca Eubank O’Connor-Wuergler (Becky) went to meet her Lord on Thursday, March 24, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman Hampton Eubank and Clara Reynolds Eubank, and her husband Ronald M. Wuergler.  She is survived by her daughter Michelle O’Connor Harmony, son-in-law Mike Harmony, granddaughters Lauren Michelle Harmony and Ashley Renea Harmony, her sister Annette Abbott and brother-in-law Jimmie Abbott, the father of her daughter, Mike O’Connor, stepchildren Kristi Krantz and Rodney Wuergler, and the most precious baby on earth, her baby Pepper.

During her lifetime, Becky always said she just wanted to make a difference for people and her community.  From the 70’s Becky gave back.  She served on Boards of Directors for the following:  Otterburn Academy, Bedford’s American Cancer Society, Bedford Country Club, Bedford Historic Society, and Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce.  She was president of the Big Otter Mill Foundation.  She served as tour docent for Poplar Forest, catering mainly to 3rd graders.  She was Secretary on the Republican Party Committee for many years and long term committee member.  Becky was an election official and when she retired from that she worked tirelessly for her candidates at the polls.  She was a member of the Bedford Education Assoc.  She was awarded the Community Builders Award in 2012 by Liberty Masonic Lodge #95.  She was a member of the Bedford Franklin Regional Rail Initiative working to get a rail stop in Bedford.  She taught Sunday School for over 20 years, served on the Bedford County Board of Zoning Appeals for 21 years.  She sold Real Estate for Scott and Bond for 30 years.  Scott and Bond sponsored the Bedford Parade for 2 years as Becky was parade chairman.

Becky was an avid gardener. She raised a jungle of flowers every year and vegetables in small raised beds with enough produce to share with family.

She never met and animal she didn’t love, wild or domestic.  She rescued countless animals, placed many in homes, and kept the rest.  But none went to an animal shelter.  She hopes to be remembered for her love of the 4 legged creatures that God created.

Her funeral will be Saturday, March 26th, 11:00 am at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Mark Wilkerson officiating. Visitation will be conducted on Friday, March 25th from 4:00-7:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home Bedford.  Becky loved her community, her family and her friends.  There are many worthy organizations that deserve your support, but for those wishing to make memorials, please consider Friends of the Big Otter Mill, P.O. Box 294, Bedford, VA or Otterville United Methodist Church, 6524 Big Island Hwy, Bedford VA.
