Rebecca Ann Woolard, 85, of Bedford passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2024. She was born on August 16, 1938, to the late Alton Gold Keel and Ella Claire Kennedy Keel. In addition to her parents Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Swindle Woolard; and sister, Peggy Jean Oliver.

 “Rebecca Ann Woolard passed away peacefully Weds morning, she has joined her loving husband Franklin among the heavenly host. Rebecca Ann will always be remembered as the caregiver and educator that spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many. From her early years as a nurturing big sister to John and Al after their mother's passing, she exemplified compassion and dedication. Her innate love for children blossomed into a lifelong passion, shaping her career and personal endeavors.

As a teacher and counselor within the Bedford County school system, Rebecca touched countless young lives, imparting not just knowledge but also empathy and support. Her commitment to nurturing the next generation extended beyond the classroom walls. In her church community, she served as a Sunday school teacher and nursery worker, fostering spiritual growth, allowing children to learn and explore their faith.

Rebecca's impact reached even further as the Director of the children's department at Eagle Eyrie Conference Center. In this role, she orchestrated enriching experiences and joyful memories for countless children, guiding them through adventures and discoveries that would shape their lives.

Throughout her 85 years of life, Rebecca Ann remained steadfast in her dedication to caring for and educating children. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, leaving behind a ripple effect of love, compassion, and inspiration. She will be greatly missed.”

 Rebecca is survived by sons, Franklin Mark Woolard, Mike Andrew Woolard, Timothy Paul Woolard (Susan), Alton Thomas Woolard; brothers, Alton Gold Keel Jr, John Edward Keel (Kathy Self) and, numerous other family and friends.

 The family would like to thank Carriage Hill Retirement Home and, James River Hospice for the love and care of Rebecca.

 A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford, with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford is assisting the family. (www.tharpfuneralhome.com)
