Reece Lester, age 72, of Dalton and formerly of Dublin, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
Reece loved the Lord with all his heart which overflowed with love towards his family, friends, and everyone he met. He could often be found taking his grandkids out for a treat, working on projects at home, or cruising in the T-bird with his lovely bride. A true minister’s heart, Reece was Pastor at Dublin Community Church for over 20 years before starting a private homecare business in which he continued to care for people and made sure everyone knew that God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their life. He will be remembered as a Godly man who built a strong family and mentored many into a deeper walk with the Lord.
Reece grew up working on the family dairy farm in Forest, Virginia. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Dairy Science from Virginia Tech. He went on to a Masters of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and finally his Doctorate of Ministry from Columbia International School of Theology.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Leta Lester.
He is survived by Libby Lester, his loving wife of 48 years; daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie (Anthony) Daniell of Dalton, Georgia; son, Carson Lester of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Leta Beth Lester (Pam Reynolds) of Durham, North Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny Lester of Forest, Virginia; Greg (Sharon) Lester of Lynchburg, Virginia; Mark (Shana) Lester of Forest, Virginia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Melissa (Brian) Gentry; Richard (Stacie) Berry; and Jerry Berry, Jr.; grandchildren, J.R. Lester and Grace Lester; Kate, David, Claire and Laura Daniell.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at ChristChurch Presbyterian (510 S. Tibbs Rd. Dalton, GA 30720) with Rev. Derry Cochran and Rev. Chuck Harris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour at 4:00 p.m.
Dr. Lester will be laid to rest at Virginia Memorial Park (11490 Forest Rd, Forest, VA 24551) on Friday, August 12th, 2022 at 12 noon.
