George Franklin Mohrmann of Forest, VA passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2024. George was born on March 2, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York to George and Charlotte Mohrmann.
He retired after 21 years of service in the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. His service included two tours in Vietnam where he earned a purple heart, a silver star for valor, and other military honors. George was also a member of the elite Army Rangers, having completed Ranger School at Fort Benning. He also served as a battalion commander at Fort Jackson Army Base in South Carolina.
Following his service in the military, George had an extensive career both on Capitol Hill and with Lockheed Martin. He was a former president of the Forest Lions Club and an active member of Peakland United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; their son, Barrett; his sons, James and Robert; as well as many grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, George.
A visitation will be held on Monday January 15, 2024 at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, VA from 5:00 - 7:00pm. A funeral service will be held at Peakland United Methodist Church on Tuesday January 16, 2024, at 2:00pm. Patriotic attire would be appreciated.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
