Rev. Woodrow Wilson Glass
Rev.Woodrow Wilson Glass, Sr., 98, of Rustburg, VA, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Medical Care Center. He was the husband of the late Vida Mae Coleburn Glass.
Woodrow was born, June 16, 1913 in Halifax County, VA, a son of the late James Edward Glass and the late Emma Compton Glass. He was the last living sibling in his immediate family of nine brothers, four sisters and one half-brother. He is survived by his children: Woodrow \"Woody\" W. Glass, Jr. and wife, Lois of Crofton, MD; Mary Marlow and husband David of Owenton, KY; Ida Blankinship and husband, Brandon of Evington, and Martha Wade and husband, Kenneth R. of Rustburg,; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was graduated from Mars Hill College, Richmond College and held a Masters of Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. During a thirty year period, he pastored churches in South Hill area, Monte Vista, Sycamore, Thaxton, Ruckersville and Lynch Station. He was a big fisherman, gardener and always enjoyed little children. He was a 50 year life time member of the Masons. Woodrow was married over 50 years and lovingly cared for his wife, Vida who had Parkinson\"™s disease for over 30 years.
He will be remembered as one who loved others above self and who was willing to be a blessing to others, to serve and not be served. Woodrow was blessed with many dear and loyal friends who continued to visit him in his last years. The Young at Heart Seniors from Hyland Heights Church were especially dear to his heart.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and staff of Medical Care Center for their acts of kindness and friendship during dad\"™s time there.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Woodrow's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday December 30, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Rev. Marvin Hiner officiating and assisted by Lowell Owens. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
