Revely B. Carwile, 97, of Lynchburg and Bedford Co., died on September 17, 2017, at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. He was the husband of Billie Newman Carwile.
Revely was born August 26, 1920, son of the late Charles Reese Carwile and Hilda Cardwell Carwile. Revely was a 1938 graduate of Rustburg H.S. and a graduate of the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce with B.S and M.Ed. degrees.
During World War II, Revely enlisted in the US Navy in 1942, earned the rank of LT. and served as a flight instructor, as a pilot across the Pacific until war’s end, and in the Naval Reserves.
Revely attended Mt. Zion UMC and was a charter member of Peakland UMC. He worked as an engineer, a teacher in public schools of Bedford Co. and Amherst Co., and retired from the US Veterans Administration. An avid genealogist and former director of Campbell Co. Historical Society, Revely loved his gardens and cattle farm.
Revely married his loving wife, Billie, on September 10, 1949, and recently celebrated 68 years together. He is survived by five children, Thomas Revely Carwile, Daniel Newman Carwile, David N. Carwile (Amy), Revely B. Carwile, Jr., all of Lynchburg, and Nancy Carwile Friend (David), of West Virginia; five grandchildren, Andrew, Zachary, Jessica, Mary Ann, and Jamie Carwile, and one brother, Charles Henry Carwile, of Lynchburg. Revely was predeceased by two sisters, Nell Carwile and Margaret Carwile Caldwell, and by seven brothers, Lewis, Robert, Wesley, Raymond, Jim, Aubrey, and Bennett.
A celebration of Revely’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior. A private interment will follow the service in the family cemetery.
