LCPL Rex Gordon Hammock passed away January 10, 2020 at his residence in Lynchburg, Va., one day prior to his 73rd birthday.
He was born on January 11, 1947 in Rocky Mount, Va. to Doris B. Roach and the late Hampton Hammock. He joined the Marine Corp in 1964 and served in the Vietnam War as a Tank Assault Man and Proof Director of Small Arms. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/2 and Vietnam Campaign Medal. In addition to being a proud Marine, he loved the outdoors and planting flowers. Roses were his favorite.
He is survived by his mother, Doris B. Roach of Gretna; sister Brenda F. Jefferson of Hurt; two nieces; two nephews; his special friend and companion of 33 years, Patricia Carter of the residence; and his best friend, William Carter of Lynchburg.
A small memorial service will be held at Gretna Health and Rehab Center in Gretna, Va. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2 p.m. Reverend Jason Andrew will be officiating.
