Richard Alan Hayth

Richard Alan Hayth, 47, of Amherst died Tuesday, February 27, 2018. He was born July 17, 1970, the oldest son of Richard and Bobbi  Hayth.

He was born in Ohio but grew up in Virginia Beach, Va., he moved to Lynchburg at the age of 16 and graduated from Heritage High School in 1988. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1995 with a bachelors’ degree in Marketing and a minor in English. He was a die-hard Hokies fan.

Alan developed a passion for all things percussion at an early age. He played snare in marching bands in Junior and Senior High School and won many awards and recognitions for his amazing talent. Although he had a love for teaching, his heart was in his music and he performed with several bands over the years.

Alan is survived by his parents, his brother Michael; his aunt Martha Wilkins (Jerry), his uncle Roy Hayth (Julia) as well as several cousins, friends and band mates.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 1 at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, Va. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 2 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Bedford, Va., with Father Salvador Anonuevo officiating. The family will have a private interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at Smith Mountain Lake, Monday, March 5, 2018.

 Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
