Richard Alan Johnson, 85, of Concord, Virginia died Friday, May 5, 2017. He is survived by his wife Carolyn E. Johnson.
Richard was an avid reader since boyhood. He was one of the top patrons at all local libraries, usually having 30 books out of the libraries at all times. He worked for the Defense Contract Administration Service for 30 years at United Nuclear Corporation and two years with Babcock & Wilcox, Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother David Johnson of Holbrook, MA. Richard leaves life-long friends he worked with, including Jim Harmon, Donna Brooks and Lou Pambuku all of Connecticut. He leaves a grandson Barrett Brooks. He also leaves nephews, Bobby, Jimmy, and David, all from Massachusetts, and Jon, Steven, and David Warner, nieces Patty Ovitt, Kathy Anderson, Laurie Johnson, and Wendy Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Gladys Johnson, his brother Carleton Johnson.
Richard will be privately interred at Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater, MA adjacent to his boyhood home at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lynchburg Public Library, Lynchburg, VA.
