Dick was born October 26, 1938, and raised in Springfield, Ohio.  He met Lois at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. They were married at Presbyterian Church in Sebring, Ohio and moved to Rantoul, Illinois where Dick was serving in the United States Air Force.  It was here that they adopted their two young sons, brothers, Cliff and Randy.  While serving in the Air Force the family lived stateside in Illinois, Liverdun, France and Speicher, West Germany. Upon his honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant from the Air Force, the family lived in Dale City, Virginia where Dick served the United States Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.  Dick and Lois then moved to the Huddleston and Moneta areas of Virginia and made their home there for more than 40 years.

Dick was a volunteer at Lake Christian Ministries and managed the sound board for Trinity Ecumenical Parish where he was a member since its conception.  Dick’s hobbies included woodworking where he made tables, organs, circular staircases and many other useful pieces.  He also loved to repair, rebuild and tinker with anything electronic.  His favorite projects were computers, boats, cars, televisions, audio systems and small appliances. He was always quick to lend a hand to those that needed help fixing something.

Although he will be sincerely missed, his loved ones are thankful he is no longer in pain and is now with his wife whom he missed dearly since her death on August 14, 2021.  The family wishes to extend a special thank you to caregiver, Stephanie Poindexter, and numerous family members for their loving care of Dick and Lois. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to SML Good Neighbors, Inc., Lake Christian Ministries or Trinity Ecumenical Parish, all of Moneta, Virginia.  Please place Richard A. Garlough on the memo line.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 3:00pm at Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta, Virginia.
