Richard Allison Lewis, Jr.

Richard Allison Lewis, Jr. passed away June 18 at his home in Rustburg, Va. after a short battle with cancer.  He was born in Raleigh, NC. August 19, 1933 the son of the late Richard Allison Lewis, Sr. and Gail Wimberley Lewis.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law Carl and Lois Powell also his brothers-in-law James and Garey Powell.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Sherry Powell Lewis; two daughters Angel Gail Wooldridge and Cynthia Lewis Ion and husband Mike, Three grandchildren, Jonathan Dane Larson, Haley Victoria Winebarger and Allison Kate Larson and a step grandson Chris Ion. He is also survived by two sisters in law, Frances Goodman and Gloria West (James).

He was an army veteran during the Korean Conflict and a member of American Legion Post 16.  After retiring from GE with 32 years of service he then pursued his lifelong dream of opening his own pool room, Friendly Cue Billiards where he was owner-operator from 1995 until present. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, pool and classic and antique cars.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 \"" 8:00 pm tonight Thursday June 20, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg and at all other times at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 in Altavista Memorial Park Mausoleum with Pastor Dennis Nichols officiating.  In lieu of flowers please consider Centra Hospice or Christian Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O.
