Richard Anthony "Dick" Pilkowski, 75, of Lynchburg, died Saturday May 8, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was born December 7, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph A. and Mary Kopaczewski Pilkowski.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Pilkowski.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Nash Jefferies Pilkowski, one daughter Patricia Anne Sebring and husband Robert of Stroudsburg, PA and a step-son Brian P. Jefferies of Lynchburg, one granddaughter Sarah Jean Obee of Newark, DE, one grandson Robert Obee of Mesa, AZ, and one brother Joseph Pilkowski of Philadelphia, PA.
Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from F & W Management Corp in Lynchburg. Richard was a faithful blood donor with the American Red Cross and was recognized for donating 100 units of platelets to the Platelatpheresis Program.
He was a faithful member of Whites United Methodist Church and enjoyed the fellowship and working together with his church family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 11, 2010 at Whites United Methodist Church on English Tavern Road in Rustburg with the Rev. Paul Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 16.
Visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory on Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg, Monday May 10, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and all other times at the residence at 109 Walton Drive, Lynchburg, VA.
