Richard Benton Wade, 75, of Bedford died Thursday, July 21, 2011. Born in Bedford County October 13, 1935, he was a son of the late Edgar Garland Wade and Hester Thomas Wade.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Lorene Pendleton Wade, Betty Parker Wade and his daughter, Regina Wade Karnes.
He was a retired employee of the City of Bedford Water Department and the Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Bedford Moose Lodge and a former member of the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department.
Richard enjoyed life to the fullest and didn\"™t miss a chance to enjoy his family and friends.
He loved attending auction sales and collecting unique items that needed a new home. He was a regular visitor of the Bedford Farmer\"™s Market and had his special seat at the former Coffey and Saunders Farm Store.
He is survived by two daughters, Penny W. Witt, (Billy) of Roanoke, Susan W. Garrett (Rick ) of Panama City, FL; very special step-son, James Wilson Parker (Pam, who was Richard\"™s \"go to\" caregiver) of Bedford, also Graham Parker Jr. (Bonnie), Gary Parker both of Thaxton, Donnie Parker (Sandy) of Bedford and Debbie Nance (Troy) of Moneta; his brother, David Wade (Mary) of Vinton; three grandsons, Shawn M. Witt, Richard G. Wade and Derrick Garrett; also numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral Services 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Parr officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
