Richard “Dickie” Byrd Hamilton, 86, of Concord, died on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
Born on July 12, 1930, Dickie was a son of the late James Cyrus Hamilton and Edith Pearl Whitehead Hamilton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Mae Tyree; and his siblings, Edward Hamilton, Nelson Hamilton, James Hamilton, Randolph Hamilton, Lorena McMillan, Clinton Hamilton, Virginia Gillespie, and Cecil H. Dillon.
Left behind to cherish Dickie’s memory are his wife of 59 years, Avaril “Mae” Wheeler Hamilton; son-in-law, Henry Tyree; four devoted nephews, James Hamilton, Ronnie Gillespie, Bryan Dillion and Wayne Dillion, and a host of other family.
Dickie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked in sales for Pepsi Co. for many years until his retirement. A dedicated member of Clearview Baptist Church, Dickie also served as a deacon of the church for thirty-five years. He was a loving husband, and a devoted father and friend who will be missed by all.
A celebration of Dickie’s life will take place on November 30, 2016, at 12 noon at Clearview Baptist Church. Interment will be held at Virginia Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post #16.
