Richard Lee Fowler, 88, of Lynchburg, VA, died Saturday, May 4, 2024. He was the husband of the late Catherine Trent Fowler. Richard was born February 17, 1936, in Lynchburg, VA, a son of the late David C. Fowler and Olivia A. Jefferson Fowler.
He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and later retired from the Lynchburg City Police Department as the first black Officer and later a Detective for numerous years. He was a member of various social clubs including the Elks Lodge, Revelers, Country Socialites, and others.
Richard is survived by many nieces and nephews, including, Victor Woods of California, Douglas L. Fowler II of Wisconsin, Valarie Woods of California, David Woods of California, Sean Fowler of Florida, Vanessa White of Texas, and Sharon Fowler of Georgia.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Fowler, and his sister, Ethel Woods.
The family wants to thank Annie Trent for her dedication to Richard's care and unfailing love for him.There will be a graveside service Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Presbyterian Cemetery at 2020 Grace Street in Lynchburg at 1:00 P.M.
