Richard Henry Brown, 77, of Bedford County, Virginia passed away at his home in Boonsboro, surrounded by family, on September 10, 2023. He is the son of the late Ashby Richard Brown and Dorothy Evelyn Brizendine Brown.
Henry was born on October 24, 1945, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated from Big Island High School in 1964 before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from Georgia Pacific’s Big Island Paper Mill after 44 years.
Henry was a man of great faith in God, and he adored his family. He loved being outdoors, where he could often be found smoking his pipe. He enjoyed traveling and spent countless summers on the road with his family.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years: Deborah M. Brown; his son: Christopher M. Brown; his grandchildren: MacKenzie Brown, Gavin Brown, and Carter Brown; his brother: Connie B. Brown (and companion, Joan Manley); his special cousin: Anne B. Acuff (and companion, John Van Der Borght); his sister-in-law: Carol U. Brown; a host of nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Eggleston, Tracy Burton, Susan Brown, April Brown, Ricky Brown (Jennifer), Dorothy Green (Sam), Danny Brown; his great nieces and great nephew: Taylor Hacker (Jerry), Joshua Eggleston, Emma Brown, Sara Turpin (Brandon); his three great-great nieces: Mallarie Eggleston, Charley Hacker, Shenoa Turpin; and devoted family friend: Stephen “Red” Hudson.
In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by his brother: James E. Brown; his sister-in-law: Pamela M. Brown; and his beloved companion dog: Mabel.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Rev. Ian Minielly officiating. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the start of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Centra Hospice (care of the Centra Health Foundation). The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to the Centra Hospice team who provided extraordinary care to Henry in the final months of his life.
